 We have author Melanie Milburne this week talking about "Research for Writing" She also has a new book out this month, Illicit Italian Nights.

Melanie Milburne writes modern romance stories for Harlequin Mills and Boon. Her love affair with romance novels began when she read her first romance at the age of seventeen and it inspired a dream to one day become a romance author. But even as a child she knew she wanted to of be a writer and enjoyed writing stories from the age of five. With nearly 100 novels in print and several industry awards and nominations for her work, Melanie enjoys crafting contemporary romance stories from her home in Hobart in beautiful Tasmania, where she lives with her husband and fur family of two cheeky toy poodles.

I am very fortunate to have no shortage of ideas. Whenever a story idea pops in my head, I type it into my notes folder on my phone. If I have to research a career or something I’ve not got much knowledge or experience of I’ll interview a professional or read about it in a book or online.

I’ve found over the years that research can be a sneaky way of disguising itself as procrastination, so I don’t waste too much of my time going down rabbit holes when I only need a line or two in the novel. 

Romance readers don’t want an information dump about what an engineer does- they want to see him or her fall in love!
